Tron is one of those movies that almost everyone has heard of but almost no one has seen. References to it are sprinkled throughout pop culture…basically the same way that everybody knows every detail about Psycho even without actually haven seen the movie (which is truly a shame (and if you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and watch the original and not the shot-for-shot remake even though it has Julianne Moore and Viggo Mortensen)).
I had never seen Tron but somehow some smart people have marketed me into becoming a raving fan who can’t wait to see the sequel coming out this December. They did it by mixing just the right of ironic pop culture nostalgia with super sleek special effects with a dash of hipster street cred by having Daft Punk do the soundtrack.
Here’s a taste.
So evil marketing geniuses, you got me. On December 17 I will be at the IMAX wearing those dorky 3D glasses, twelve dollars poorer and ready (hopefully) to have my mind blown by a visual and aural masterpiece. Are you with me?
Awesome! It looks like they’re bad guys. Also, the lead reminds me of the guitar solo on Aerodynamic, which isn’t a bad thing at all.
I’m in. Group field trip?
It does look incredible but I can’t understand why neon makes such a comeback in the future.
